Hi, I’m Marlon Munoz and I
am the proud inventor of The Co-Pilot.
During my late teens I got in several car accidents
that were the result of the lack of attentiveness and driving experience.
It wasn’t until I started to work in the trucking
industry that my driving habits improved. Learning about what an 80,000 lbs.
tractor-trailer doing 65 miles per hour can do to a car will change your view on
speeding in and out of lanes or simply doing 55mph when the speed limit is
35mph.
My habits improved even more when my wife and I had
our daughter. I made it a point to stop changing lanes like a mad man, got in
the habit of turning on my headlights, even though my car didn’t have day time
running lights, always checked my clearance and not to mention the constant need
to check my surroundings when driving. The Co-Pilot does that for people,
it makes them aware of their surroundings, it helps people think about the
what, how, when, where, and why
while they are driving. A second can mean a lot when we don’t pay attention on
the road. I’ve seen it happen. Just think about this; “The NHTSA (see Links) has
reported 42,196 people died in motor vehicle crashes in 2001 and that motor
vehicle crashes were the 8th-leading cause of deaths among all ages that year.”
The Co-Pilot is an electronic system that generates safety
related voice messages that engages the operator of the vehicle in driving
safety. A voice message as simple as “check your clearance when backing up” can
go a long way, especially when we are on the go.
One of the features of
The Co-Pilot is the “season switch”; you can actually flip a switch to listen
to fall/winter or spring/summer related messages. So, if you are driving on the
snow you will hear something like “when on the road, please keep in mind the
dangers of black ice” or if you are driving during a downpour in the summer;
“rain can cause your vehicle to hydroplane, please use caution” and so on. Please understand that The Co-Pilot will
only help you remember perform certain safety tasks while operating a vehicle.
It doesn’t prevent vehicle accidents per say, you can only do that.
Here are
some of the features of The Co-Pilot:
The season switch:
It will allow the
operator of the vehicle to hear messages geared to the season of the year.
Fall/Winter or Spring/Summer.
On/Off button:
There isn’t one. The
whole point of having The Co-Pilot is so that it engages the operator in driving
safety. Driving safe is part of your
life style!
Volume knob:
The volume knob is set
to a minimum, low enough that, if you choose to, you can lower it for your
listening pleasures, like your radio. And high enough that can keep you awake
during that trip to the Casino in Connecticut, The Adirondacks, or maybe the
Jersey Shore.
Sequenced and Random Messages:
Random: played on three settings, every 2,4, and 8 and also available on 4,10, and 20 minutes
Sequenced: played on three settings, every 2,4, and 8 and also available on 4,10 and20 minutes
Yes, very annoying, that’s
my favorite part. -----Did you say that you are getting your teenager her/his
first car soon? -----
So,
besides teens, who can use The Co-Pilot?
Seniors
Parents
Delivery vehicles (such
as Jimmy’s Delivery Fleet)
Commercial vehicles
(trucks, tractor-trailers, etc.)
School Buses
A preventative “Don’t
drink and drive tool”.
Heavy Machinery
Boats
Aircraft
UFO’s
Why would
you want to get The Co-Pilot?
Imagine getting into a
preventable accident. Now imagine preventing a car accident because of The
Co-Pilot.
Now think about what you
are going to save. Let’s start with the trip to the insurance agency then the
auto body shop or something a lot worse than that, grieving the loss of a loved
one. That’s why I think The Co-Pilot is a tool that everyone should have in his
or her vehicle. It has the potential to save your life.
